Next to You: A Sweet Display Font for Modern Branding

I was working on a brand identity for a small, locally-owned café called “Morning Brew,” and I needed a font that felt warm, approachable, and just a little bit playful. The challenge was finding something that wouldn’t feel too casual or too formal—something that could bridge the gap between professionalism and charm. That’s when I stumbled upon Next to You. It immediately caught my eye with its thin letterforms and subtle quirks, and I knew it had potential.

A Font with Personality

Next to You is a display font that feels like it was designed with a smile. Its thin, delicate strokes give it a lightness that works well in both digital and print formats. The letters are slightly irregular in their spacing, which adds character without sacrificing legibility. What stood out most was how it managed to be both fun and elegant at the same time—a rare combination in typography.

The font has a soft, almost whimsical mood that fits perfectly with lifestyle brands, creative studios, or any project that wants to convey warmth and connection. I tested it on a few logo drafts for Morning Brew, and every time, it brought a sense of friendliness to the design. It wasn’t just about looking good; it was about feeling right.

From Mockup to Final Brand Materials

I started by using Next to You as the primary text in a logo mockup. The name “Morning Brew” felt natural in this font—it gave the impression of someone greeting you with a cup of coffee in hand. I paired it with a clean sans-serif font for body text, which helped maintain balance while keeping the visual hierarchy clear.

As I moved into packaging design, I used Next to You on the front of the coffee bags. It looked great next to simple illustrations of mugs and beans. Even on a small label, the font didn’t feel cramped; instead, it added a touch of personality that made the product stand out.

For social media graphics, I experimented with using Next to You in headlines and captions. It worked especially well in Instagram posts where the tone was upbeat and inviting. The font’s slight irregularity gave the designs a more human feel, which resonated well with the café’s target audience.

Design Considerations and Practical Use

One thing I noticed early on was how Next to You behaves in different contexts. It shines as a display font but can also work well as an accent typeface. However, I found that using it for long-form text wasn’t ideal due to its thin weight and lack of serifs, which can reduce readability over extended passages.

I recommend testing Next to You before committing to it for a full brand system. Try it on various materials: business cards, shop signs, website headers, and even merchandise. See how it looks in different colors and sizes. It might surprise you how versatile it is when used thoughtfully.

Font pairing is another area worth exploring. I found that Next to You pairs beautifully with a modern sans-serif like Montserrat or a classic serif like Playfair Display. These combinations create contrast without clashing, making them ideal for branding projects that need both style and substance.

Why Next to You Works for Branding

Next to You isn’t just a pretty font—it’s a tool that helps shape the way your brand is perceived. It brings a sense of familiarity and approachability, which is crucial for businesses aiming to build trust and connection with their audience. Whether you're designing a logo, a poster, or a website header, this font can help reinforce your brand’s voice and values.

I also appreciated that it came with several styles and alternates, giving me flexibility in how I used it. This is especially useful for creating variations in brand materials without losing consistency. And since it’s a commercial font, I didn’t have to worry about licensing issues when presenting the final designs to the client.

What I love most about Next to You is that it doesn’t try too hard. It’s not overly ornate or complicated. Instead, it offers a fresh take on display typography that feels both modern and nostalgic. It’s the kind of font that makes you want to use it again and again.

If you’re looking for a font that can bring warmth, character, and a touch of humor to your design projects, Next to You is definitely worth adding to your collection. Whether you're working on a small local brand or a larger commercial project, this font has the versatility and charm to make your work stand out.
